Favre-Jacot—one of the most ‘mythical’ watchmakers—founded Zenith
watches in 1865. He had a knack for creating extremely high quality watches with
a beautiful style like none other.
The night Favre-Jacot founded his workshop, he stood in the backyard of his home
and stared up at the sky. He saw a giant constellation of stars orbiting around
a pole star so subtly and miraculously. He felt the sight was magical—something
you wouldn’t see every day, and he felt blessed that he had the chance to
witness something so beautiful. From this, he decided to name his company
Zenith, which is considerably the highest point in the universe. The next day,
he adopted the pole star and made it the companies good luck charm. He believed
it was a celestial guide towards a very promising fate.
Over the years, Favre-Jacot became a constantly growing success. In 1875, only
ten years later, he already had over a thousand employees working in his
workshop. He only employed the best—people who shared the same values as he did.
The founding values of the company are beauty, truth, integrity, precision, and
mastery over complicity. To this day, these values are still practiced
religiously.
