In 1755, a young man by the name of Jean-Marc Vacheron opened up his watch
making
workshop in Geneva, Switzerland. Vacheron had exceptional craftsman skills and
an amazingly creative mind that sent him and his business to become one of the
most renowned companies in the science of time. He had determination, integrity,
motivation, and, most of all, the want to always make something better than the
last. He thrived on his motto:
‘Do better if possible, and that is always possible’.
Vacheron lived by those words throughout every watch or idea he had ever made
all the way until he died in 1810. At this time, Vacheron’s grandson took over
the company. As much as Jean-Marc was impossible to replace, his grandson sky
rocketed the business’ success. One idea that he had that Jean-Marc never
thought of what going world-wide. He started off exporting watches to Italy and
France, and then, very soon later, starting supplying the rest of the world.
Vacheron Constantin watches has been
around for hundreds of years, which is a lot longer than almost every other
watch company out there. In 1955, the company celebrated its third century
existence. With this being said, the company’s top watchmaker decided to make
something new; something they haven’t even come close to creating yet. He
decided to create the thinnest watch ever produced, with a calibre only 1.64 mm
deep. This watch went down in watch making history.
