abided to motto of Auguste Agassiz—the proud founder of Longines watches. In
1832 in St. Imier, Switzerland, Agassiz decided to pursue his dream of becoming
a successful watch maker. He started off in a partnership with another
watchmaker, one with a lot more experience in the world of watch making. The
watches almost instantaneously became popular, and gained a wonderful reputation
for creating elegant, refined timepieces. And, before long, Agassiz bought out
his partner, and took over the company, renaming it “Agassiz and Campagne”. The
name was changed to Longines in more recent years. Soon after his takeover,
Agassiz went international and became well known in over one hundred and thirty
countries.
Longines watches began to create a very good relationship with the sporting
world. Gymnasts, speed skaters, archerers, tennis players, and skiers all
realized that Longines watches are the most precise watches and works the best
in their sports. Agassiz took pride in the fact that his target customers became
these kinds of people because he believed that the sports these people practised
were excellent representations of the precision and elegancy of his watches. In
1919, Longines watches became the main supplier of the FAI, the World Air Sports
Federation. His watches were used to verify millions of world records since.
