Glashutte watches probably has
the most unique history out of any other watch
manufacturer. Glashutte is actually a very small town in Germany over by Saxony.
The name means ‘tin mine’ or ‘silver mine’. The town has been a watch town since
1845, when a man by the name of Ferdinand Lange decided to open up a teaching
workshop for aspiring watchmakers. Just about the entire town was in on the
workshop, and trained long and hard to become extremely skilful watchmakers.
Soon after the workshop was made, a business erupted that just about the whole
town was apart of. Almost every house in Glashutte had its own little miniature
workshop for watch making with massive supplies of materials such as gears,
cases, springs, etc. The company soon gained a very proud reputation for the
hand crafted attention to detail, uniqueness, and character in each and every
watch produced. With the proper funding from the German government, Glashutte
watches became extremely popular all over Germany.
However, the success took a dramatic turn during the German war. Funding was cut
off and the business could not afford to keep everything running. It fell too
far below Swiss watches and eventually, the existence of the company was
terminated.
This downfall did not last very long, thankfully. In 1990, during the
reunification of Germany, Glashutte was one of the only watch companies that
successfully came back to life with the ability to restore its traditions, and
preserve and promote its location. From here, the company no longer needed
funding. It became a world wide success and one of the most unique watch
manufacturer in the world.
Glashutte watches today are very
pricy, but it is worth the small investment. If there was a Picasso painting
that would look absolutely beautiful in your living room, you would spend the
thousands of dollars and buy it, wouldn’t you? The little pieces of Glashutte
art would look absolutely stunning in on your wrist, so what’s the difference if
you buy that? You’ll feel great wearing a piece of history, and you’ll love how
reliable these watches are. Durability, reliability, and beauty are just a few
perks to owning a Glashutte watch.
